LAFAYETTE — Delmas Duffield Hillyer, 91, 4870 Whippoorwill Drive, Lafayette, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 11, 1999 at his residence. His death was unexpected. Born Feb. 1, 1908 in Rainsville, the son of William Bruce and Minnie M. Grames Hillyer. He married Elizabeth Ann Stover Aug. 4, 1931 in the Attica Presbyterian Church, who survives. He was raised in Attica and graduated from Attica High School. He attended Wabash College. He resided in Lafayette since 1942. He formerly managed the Kroger grocery stores in Danville, Rockville, Crawfordsville and Attica. He had worked at the Miller-Ferguson Funeral Home in Attica. He was a crane operator at Alcoa in Lafayette for 33 years, retiring in 1973. He was a former member of the Elston Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Alcoa Retiree Club and the 25 year club there, and the AFL-CIO 251 Aluminum Workers Union. Survivors, besides his wife, include: daughter, Anona A. (Jay) Mitchell, Lafayette; sister, Doris Snyder, Cumberland Gap, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant brother. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with Pastor John DeSanto officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
